Judo is a Japanese sport established in 1882 by Jigorō Kanō. The term judo translates as ‘the gentle way’, the modern sport can trace its origins back to the martial art of Ju Jitsu ‘the gentle art’.
As with all martial arts Judo has at its core a set of moral values, values that we encourage all members of the club to follow
Judo Moral Code
Politeness
Courage
Sincerity
Self-Control
Honour
Modesty
Friendship
Respect
The Strathkelvin Judo Club was founded in 1993 with the aim of teaching the modern sport of judo, while retaining its core values, to a wider audience.
Two of the clubs founder members are still active in the club, Dean Thomson and the clubs current head coach, Allan Philip.
Over the years the club has had many successes, both on and off the mat. The club has produced Scottish champions, British medalists and a technical official at the London 2012 Paralympic games.
